Why Dead End Fingerboards?
I started Dead End Fingerboards out of pure necessity in 2012. Ordering Professional decks and equipment from Germany or even the USA was a pricy exercise and waiting for orders to arrive literally took months. My griptape would be worn down to the wood by the time the next piece arrived.
So I did what any other impatient young adult would do... make my own decks the way I wanted them! I searched high and low for the best quality Maple veneer and spent hundreds if not thousands of Rands experimenting with various wood glues and epoxies. The trucks and bearing wheels are the only products manufactured for Dead End, but under my specifications.
Finally I had a product that I was proud to offer other South African Fingerboarders and my decks are the only decks I use now! Some of the first boards I experimented with still have their pop due to a special mix of glues I have formulated.
Before Dead End Fingerboards?
In 1999 I bought my first Tech Deck from Reggies and have been collecting them ever since. However, I was first introduced to the world of professional 5 ply decks and bearing wheels when I discovered youtube years later. Companies like Black River Ramps and Berlinwood had been producing top quality equipment since 1999.
Before this fingerboarding was pretty much reserved for rainy days. After... well, now I'm more hooked than ever before. Fingerboarding has evolved at an insane rate the last decade and I am proud to offer other South Africans a product that can compete with the best.
The Future?
Interest in Fingerboarding is rapidly growing in South Africa, but before it was virtually impossible to take up unless you settled for a narrow little Tech Deck or were willing to spend up to 99 Euros (Over R1000) for a complete setup. Statistics from this site show an average of 30 unique visitors a day since it first went live and to date I've actually lost count on the amount of decks sold (well over 150) with more orders daily!
